Australian Teachings

Wangdrak Rinpoche Returned to Australia in 2017

We were most happy to welcome Wangdrak Rinpoche back to Australia in November 2017, where he gave talks and teachings in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and the NSW Blue Mountains. Rinpoche led extended meditation sessions as an opportunity to deepen the connection and meditation experience of students from his previous visits.

Rinpoche also led two retreats in NSW’s Blue Mountains.

Wangdrak Rinpoche’s teachings address the people and needs of our time. Coming from pure experience rather than from scriptural tradition, Rinpoche will give discussion-style talks and teachings on the wisdom that pervades our Buddhist practice at all levels. The talks will be open to all and the teachings will have a large meditation component.

Wangdrak Rinpoche was officially recognised by Sakya Trizin as the third incarnation of Wangdrak Dorje, one of the early lamas of Gebchak Gonpa who saw the need to provide women with the same opportunity as men to train in the Buddhist path. At the age of nine Rinpoche begain his monastic education in the Kagyu, Sakya and Nyingma traditions, receiving the Khenpo degree in Buddhist philosophy at Dzongsar College in Tibet. As a Lama of Gebchak Gonpa, Wangdrak Rinpoche is committed to the spiritual and material welfare of 350 nuns who are renowned for their devotion and profound practice of their unique female lineage.

Ani Tenzin Chozom, Rinpoche’s translator, is a Canadian who lived as a nun in India and Tibet for 18 years and has been Wangdrak Rinpoche’s translator for 12 years. She is now a PhD candidate at Sydney University.
