The conclusion of the Vajrakilaya Drubchen (intensive group ritual practice) at Gebchak Gonpa, Tibet, in December 2010. This intensive prayer ceremony lasts 9 days and is held at the end of each year to sanctify the new year ahead. Laypeople are not permitted to join the retreat as it is held within the boundaries of the Gebchak enclosure. However, everyone – including children – gather outside on the last day to watch the spectacular ritual of casting off the ransom effigy to ward off negativity. Tsang-Yang Gyamtso & Wangdrak Rinpoches, Gebchak lamas, preside alongside all the nuns of Gebchak Gonpa.
